Since the start of the 2000’s, the world has become more digital than ever, with technology influencing nearly every part of our lives. From the way we chat with friends to how we conduct business, programming has become a crucial skill. 

BUT,  if you’re considering learning how to program, you might be asking yourself, “Is it too late in 2025?” The answer is a solid no. It’s never too late to start learning how to code, whether you’re just a beginner entering the industry or someone transitioning into the field.

I still recommend that you learn how to program. It is a useful skill and asset to know, even if it isn’t the golden era for being a programmer.

Learning how to code won’t only make you more valuable as a person because you have another asset in your toolbelt, but you’ll have more freedom online to do more things. Let’s take a look at the 3 TOP benefits of knowing coding.

Since coding is such an enormous market, starting to code can be an overwhelming and tedious journey, especially if you don’t know where to start. Thankfully, you don’t need to worry. I have broken the journey into three main steps…, “why”, “right language”, “where to learn”.

First Step: “Why”?

Now before you can start programming, you must consider why you want to learn it altogether? Whether it is building mobile apps, creating games, designing websites or to just have a new skill, knowing the why is essential for the next steps and for the entire programming experience altogether. 

Most people start programming with no sense of purpose and direction and then get lost and frustrated and in the end give up on learning because they figure it’s too hard, but the real reason is they didn’t have a clear purpose or goal. They didn’t have a “why”!

Second Step: Learning the right programming language

Once you have figured out why you want to code, learning the right programming language is necessary. For example, if you wanted to build a game for an iPhone, learning Javascript would be of no use and would only waste your time. 

Instead you would master Swift and C to build an iPhone game. Or if you wanted to build a website, learning Dart probably wouldn’t be the best approach. It would probably be better and more effective to learn Javascript or PHP.

Third Step: Where To Learn?

Now there are so many places online to learn how to program. Sites such as Udemy, LinkedIn, & CodeAcademy have several courses on different programming languages, applications, and more! Of course, you have to pay for them if you want to get full access to their content, but the costs are inexpensive and very affordable. I’ve personally used them to increase my knowledge and skill set, so I do recommend them.

Now before you get too carried away, I do recommend as well as most professional programmers, is to start off with an easier programming language such as Javascript or Python. This will ensure that you will learn the necessary concepts such as variables, functions, object oriented programming, etc.
